What is it?
The eTA is an electronic travel authorization required for travelers flying to or transiting through Canada. It is linked digitally to your passport, so no sticker or stamp is issued in advance. Without a valid eTA, boarding a flight to Canada is not allowed.

Veelgestelde vragen
What is a Canada eTA?
An eTA is an electronic travel authorization linked digitally to your passport. It is not a visa, but it is required to travel to Canada by air without one.
How long is the eTA valid?
Up to five years, or until your passport expires sooner. You may travel multiple times within that period.
How long can I stay in Canada per visit?
Usually up to six months per entry. The border officer determines the exact permitted length on arrival.
Is the eTA single or multiple entry?
Multiple entry. As long as the eTA and your passport are valid, you can travel to Canada several times.
How fast is the eTA arranged?
Often within minutes. In some cases processing takes a little longer, so applying ahead of time rather than at the last moment is wise.
How do I receive my eTA?
The approved eTA arrives by email. No sticker or stamp is needed, since everything is linked digitally to your passport.
Do I need a photo or passport scan?
No. The Canada eTA only requires your passport details and travel details, no photo or scan.
What about my passport validity?
Travel with a passport that stays valid throughout your stay. The eTA is tied to that one passport: if you get a new passport, a new eTA is needed.
